Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly is set to pass a bill to establish Local Government Economic Planning and Development Board for Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas in the State into law.
august24online.com gathered that the bill was sponsored by the Amiable and cool headed Deputy Speaker of the state, Hon. Wasiu Sanni Eshilokun which scaled through its second reading during the Assembly’s plenary today.
According to Eshilokun, ''if the bill is passed into law, it will synchronize the Local Government and LCDAs in economic planning and development. the bill is in cognizance to the constitution and will go a long way to promote and strengthen the financial status of the State adding that this bill is the first of its kind being pioneer in Lagos'' Eshilokun Stated.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa said the intendment of the bill is to harmonize the economic growth in our country and to promote harmony between each LG and LCDAs in other to promote and sustain the State economy especially from the grassroot.
In his own contribution to the bill,Lawmaker representing Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency II, Hon. Rasheed Makinde reiterated that the bill is people oriented bill; he said if properly managed it will allow the Local Government to look beyond their allocation. It will also increase their income and expenditure while it will allow government to do better in areas of development.
Our reporter who witness the plenary session gathered that the bill has been assigned to Committee on Economic Planning and Budget for further actions that would speed up its passage into law.
